Beharrel Family Genealogy

Huguenots and Walloons

The Beharrell family traces it's origins back to Northern France. They were Huguenots who fled in 1628. They came to the Isle of Axholme, a marshy area on the border of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire to carry out drainage work. When the work was completed the three families split and our ancestors moved first to the area around Snaith and Drax and then on to settle in Wawne in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The family moved again to Hull, where some of their descendents still live.

6. CHARLOTTE ANN⁵ BEHARREL (JOHN⁴ BEHARRELL, GEORGE³ BEHARELL, ROBERT² BEHARRELL, ISAAC¹) was born 1873 in Hull. She married JOSEPH BROGDEN 1891 in Hull, son of ROBERT BROGDEN and MARGARET MCMORRAN.

In 1891 Charlotte was working as a servant to a french polisher, Mr Edward Dawson.
